Officially on the Move
Well, leave it to Em to do things in classic Emily style. If I am honest, she had me a little concerned again as she had not progressed in any of her skills for quite a long time...and then...this week happened. In one week she has started talking, playing games and officially started walking.
What? Yep, until Tuesday, she knew one word, "Daddy" (which applies to anything and everything). Two days later, she now says, "Uh-Oh", "Go", and "Hi" as well. She has started to instigate playing games like peek-a-boo and, well, anything that gets a reaction from people. As far as her walking, people have been telling me for a long time that she is walking, but I haven't given her credit because in my mind, until she decides to venture out with no one around and actually use it as a tool for life, I consider it 'almost there'. SO, Tuesday she started just trying to get from one place to another and yesterday she started to just walk until she lost her balance. She is still doing it today! Yipee!
I caught some of it on video so I made a short one...her talking, her walking, showing off crayon face, and saying "hi" as my "bye".
We also went to the High-Risk Infant Follow-Up Clinic at Loma Linda and since she is finally one year old, there are many new things we can add to her diet to try to get her gaining weight and growing at a faster rate. First, we have switched from formula to PediaSure (toddler shakes). I really didn't know it could get more expensive than formula, but we just doubled our food expenses for her. Oh well, what are you going to do?
Secondly, there is a powder that can be added to her food that has no taste but adds 50 calories per tablespoon, but, since it too is very expensive so we are going to wait to see if we really need it or if the pediasure does the trick.
If you would like to pray for us, we have put an appeal in to our insurance to cover these two (as they rejected our original request) and we will find out in about two weeks what they say. Because Emily's lack of weight gain is medically described as a "Failure to Thrive" and she has been medically prescribed these 'over the counter' remedies, we have a one-in-a-million shot that the insurance will help us cover the cost. God has always provided for what we need so I am not worried, I am just in a moment where I am tired of the constant craziness that is Emily. Thanks for your prayers! Wait, pause, look above to see how God answers our prayers daily!! I am no longer in that moment...what a great God we serve! My baby girl is walking...a year before they said to expect it from her! God Bless!!

hey Becky - Is the powder you're looking for called Duocal? Back when Aaron started seeing a GI specialist (2 years ago) for low weight, we tried the stuff. It didn't work for him b/c he had food aversions and wouldn't eat much of anything of the texture we could mix it in! (yogurt, apple sauce, etc.). For some reason we got a big batch of the stuff at some point and, me being me, it's still sitting on a shelf in my pantry. It was a while ago, so they are close to the expiration date, but if it's what you're looking for, you can have it. I have 7 cans expiring 11/2011 and 4 more expiring 3/2012 :). That would be awesome if it's what you're looking for! call or email me - Esther Thompson (dec232000@hotmail.com or 530-623-3206).
Em has grown so much in what she can do since we saw her and you in January!! It's darling to see and hear her say her few words and see how pleased she is when she says them! Walking has progressed also. will be praying about insurance coverage for tha powder, etc. God will provide and even help her to "like" the taste enough to eat it.
She is one special miracle!
