And, of course, we tried for a few family photos.
K learned a new word...lily pad. Speaking of language...Em came to me the other day and asked if she could read the Nemo story to me. I agreed and sat down. Em showed me the first page, then said, "Once upon a time there was a big diver who came and took Nemo into a big tank. (Turn page). Then Dory came. (Turn page). And Marlin. (Turn page). And they went away. (Page). And that's the end. (Emphatic closing of book)." I was a little shocked and keeping back a laugh but said, "Thanks Em, that was a great story!" to which she replied, "Yeah, it was a short story," as she walked off.
On this same day, K came to me out of the blue and said, "Mom, I had a new thinking when I was sitting on the potty!" For the life of me, I can't remember what her new thinking was because I was trying so hard to remember how she said that, but I decided that was more than enough information. :-)
Okay, one more. At breakfast one morning...K: Mom, I wish I wasn't allergic to eggs. Me: Me too sweetheart. Maybe someday you won't be. You know, we could pray and ask Jesus to heal you. K: My body doesn't need healing. I don't feel bad at all. It just wiggles and wiggles from laying down in my bed too long. (Big pause with Mom having no idea how to respond). K: Maybe we should ask Jesus to take away my allergy to eggs.
Anyway, we went to the Old Spaghetti Factory for lunch, then drove up to REI and introduced the girls to our favorite store. We set up a tent we have been looking at and when K cried because we weren't buying it, we decided a drive (and therefore a nap) was in order. We took all the backroads back to our neck of the woods (yes, they have those here...they are just four lanes wide) and when the girls woke up, stopped at a candy shop for dessert before heading to church. In a strange sort of way, it was a perfect day. We had the whole family out and about, even over naps, and yet it wasn't stressful. M and I got lots of good quality talking time in while the girls slept, and we didn't spend a ton of money. Oh, and we walked out of REI without dropping a dime! Yes, us.
Oh Em...I don't remember when this was, but boy oh boy, this girl. Yes, she put the helmet on backwards. I always joke about making Em play with a helmet on, but seeing her actually do it...well, special, she is very special. :-)
Everything is funny to Emily, which makes school hard, but makes life so much more fun, so you can imagine how happy she was that she got both mom and dad laughing!
Playing the in bounce house at one of the BBQs we went to...the lighting was so perfect, I ran to the car to get my camera.
Z was upset that she wasn't in the photo (when we tried, the fourth kid made the whole thing collapse) and so she wanted a photo of her own...but then K totally photobombed it!! Ha!
Well, it has been a good summer so far, if not quite chaotic. With M having weekends off, we seem to be on the go all the time. Crazy what happens when your days off line up with everyone else's!
I hope all is well in your lives! God Bless!
