Man vs Food

So, A and E watch a show called "Man vs Food". In this show, the crazy man goes around the country taking on food challenges at various restaurants. One of those food challenges took place in San Diego at the Broken Yolk Cafe. Being a fan, Eric felt the need to take on the challenge.

This challenge is to eat a 12 egg omelet full of a pound and a half of onions, cheese and mushrooms, topped by a pound and a half of chilli, more cheese, a pound of a half of potatoes and two giant buttermilk biscuits...in one hour.  (Yes, that sound you hear is me heaving in the bathroom!!)

If you succeed, you get your picture on the wall of fame and the meal is free.  If you fail, you get your picture on the wall of shame and you pay for your meal.  Such high stakes!!

I didn't get the right angle, but I was trying to show you that the pile of potatoes was as tall as the salt shaker.  Eric's first and only comment was that it looked significantly larger in person than it did on tv!  When I realized it was served on a pizza platter and the waiter needed two hands to carry it, I about passed out for him. :-)

K wolfing down her one pancake.

Of course, Em wanted her picture with her food...she had no idea why I was taking pictures of food.  :-)

T cheering Dad on.

Ugh!!

A little more than half way through the plate, Eric said he was still comfortable but there was no way he was going to finish it, so he was ready to stop.  Man vs Food? Food won.  M says Eric would have polished it off in college but alas, no more!

So, he got his photo on the wall of shame.

And posed for the "I'm stuffed, but not sick" picture.

Ok, just a couple bonus pics of T-dog.

Have a great day!  God Bless!!

Outings in Escondido

Let's see, while we were in Escondido, we did a little traveling to some of the local sites.  This is Queen Califa's statue...you know, a strange modern art something something.  The outer ring (the black and white with mirrors) was a little like a maze that led into the center.

Honestly, I don't remember much about the history or anything about it...mainly because I didn't care.  :-)  BUT, the mosaics were pretty neat and we had an awesome time chasing the girls all over the place!

Hiding from Dad...just love Em hiding while K checks herself out in the mirror!

When we, the girls, had a day alone, we went to the nearby missions.  This one was San Antonio de Pala, the smallest mission in CA.

Climbing up to the bell tower.

April was nervous the girls wouldn't be interested in some old missions, but I assured her that as long as they could run around, they wouldn't care where we were...they remained true to form.

The "princess" chair...

This might be the smallest mission in CA but the chapel is beautiful.

For no particular reason, you might start seeing pictures of Em running.  I am constantly amazed when I watch her run.  I know what little detail she is seeing and I can see her compensating for it in her gait, but she just keeps running, and she is fast, and getting faster.  It always serves to remind me how strong she really is.  She may not have learned her letters yet, but she has learned so many far more necessary skills other kids will never need.

We also went to the largest mission in CA...San Luis Rey.

This was cute...it was about to start raining so I decided to run down and see if the neat looking gate led to anything cool before we all walked all the way down there...well, the girls took off after me.  They ran the whole way and were so excited and proud of themselves when they got there.

It turned out just to be the place where they washed all their clothes back in the day, but oh well, the run was good and we just got back to the car before it started to rain.

The spout...at a Catholic Mission...no, I don't get it either.  :-)

Oh, almost forgot this!  We drove by an ostrich farm on our wanderings.  So random.

Well, I probably have just one more post on our most enjoyable week with April and family, but for now I will sign off.  We are in Redding with my parents at this point in time and I can't soak in enough green, trees and vast distances between me and other people!!  I go running for the fun of it, not just to stay in shape.  :-)

USS Midway

One of our other day trips was to the USS Midway in San Diego. The USS Midway is an aircraft carrier that has been converted into a naval aviation museum. The best part of the ship is how much of it is open for you to wander around in. Plus, they have entire rooms set up as they would have been seen with furniture, decorations and mannequins to finish it off. I know it sounds a little creepy but it was actually really cool and made it so easy to visualize all that was going on, especially for the girls and the parents who don't get to listen to the audio tour because they have little girls. :-)

The entire place was designed so kids could climb in and on everything and not get in any trouble.  The girls loved it!  Can't believe someone finally did it right!

Up on deck...the phone was talking to her...

We made it to the brig.  I told K she had to be sad but she said she couldn't.

But Em and I pulled it off.

Nap time.

I asked the girls where we were going and they said, "To the princess island!!"  We didn't tell them they weren't actually steering the ship (the bridge was the only place we couldn't go because the girls were too short).

Can you imagine sleeping in here?

The anchor chain...

K is in to running everywhere she goes.

We had a blast and got totally worn out!

The statue of the returning seaman...

I totally recommend this place to anyone around here.  It was cheap compared to almost anything to be done around here and the kids were free to roam, plus there was so much to see.  It gets two thumbs up.  Besides, if you don't have small kids, the audio tour is included with the price of admission...and you can listen to it and actually learn something.  Have a great day!
