Just Relax!

We just got back from camping at the beach...Doheny State Beach to be precise.  We left after church and went straight to the Ocean Institute to check out 'the old pirate ship'.

Pretty tiny pirate's ship, huh?  :-)

Thank goodness the anchor was down!

Em decided she was shooting the pirate ship next to us.  I'm not sure which is worse - Em driving or Em shooting a cannon.

BTW, this was the pirate ship next to us.

Then we went inside and took a peak at the animals at the institute.

The real ones too...

A "bubble under the sea".

Did you know that jelly fish don't have a brain or a heart?  Yeah, and I'm supposed to buy that they are higher up on the evolutionary chain than us.  I'll just let that go.  Anyway, he's eating those teeny tiny little shrimp around him.

Awww, maybe I'll get one little scientist somewhere.

Then we went to our campsite and set up the tent...did I mention it was ON the beach?

And the sun set...

Made a fire and had smores...why else does one camp but to have fires and eat smores?  It looks perfect, but all those clouds did not bode well for the night.

It rained on and off all night long and if our friends hadn't had an RV, we would have spent the evening sleeping instead of playing games...but they had home on wheels and we were glad.  The next morning we woke up to this lake around our tent.

The girls didn't seem to notice and played in the sand regardless.

So what does one do at the beach? Ride bikes...

Hey!  Emily finally taught herself to pedal the trike!  We have tried so many times and gotten too frustrated so we agreed to quite trying rather than make it a big deal.  Now she has done it on her own.  She was pretty proud of herself!

Spent even more time playing in the sand...

Oh, and the adults, well we sat on the berm, talked, and watched the kids play.

Now that we are back on the same shift as these guys, we can do more together again...it's been a while but nice to hang out!

The girls were cracking me up. Really I just love it that they play together so well now but whatever was going on here, K told Em to do something that Em did not want to do...

So she sat all by herself in her stubborn refusal to cooperate.

After doing all of this all day long, we had a massive meal of steak and potatoes and carrots, cooked over the flames, and then the sun set again.

Oh yeah, even Cinderella got a castle.

Playing with my settings over the fire.

We spent three days and two nights having a blast.  It was very relaxing!  We drank a lot of cocoa, ate a lot of food and tried to remember that the crashing sound was waves, not thunder.  Good times.  God Bless!
