Well, it is time for our monthly installment of "Life" on the home-front. Let's see, to begin, Emmy loves to play with cars and trucks of all sort...in this case, lion is getting a ride in the school bus. He came to visit me in the kitchen.
K, I am afraid, will always be a girly girl, just to keep us on our toes. She wears dresses every day of her life. Somedays I can convince her to wear a skirt, but it is rare. I know it is hard to imagine she is a performer, but it is not unusual to hear, "Mommy, watch me! Will you get the camera and take a picture of me?" Of course, I oblige.
Oh, my favorite turn of events in the last couple of months is that they have rapidly been shifting into playing more often than fighting. They still fight a lot but finally I am starting to spend more of the average day cooking and cleaning than breaking up fights. It's not perfect, but we are getting there and I am finally starting to be glad they were born so close together. That's K in a dog outfit giving Em a ride around the house. :)
Part of the reason they are playing more is that K has been teaching Em how to make things up. Em got in here of her own volition and made it a bed to take a nap. K thought she was so funny!
A friend left her goggles here and K was pretending to be under the water looking at fish and frogs, so she is giving you her serious face...no interrupting!
This is a very common occurrence at our house. K loves to read to Em.
She is showing me the page.
Em is two...in case you hadn't guessed. This is her attitude pose...except it is usually accompanied by a stiff lip and frown.
So my favorite Em story so far this month goes like this: I changed a poopy diaper and put Em in the bathroom while I ran the stinky mess out to the garbage. When I got back, Em was standing in the shower, so I went to find pajamas and a clean diaper. Coming back from this journey, I hear Em toot and I laugh and say, "You tooter!", which usually invokes a proud repeat, "Me tootah!". But on this day, my comment was met by silence and my alarm was on instant alert. I look up to see Em with a very funny look on her face and she starts walking toward me like a cat with tape on its feet. I run over just in time to stop her from exiting the shower and see a pile of poo in the corner and tiny little poop tracks (footprints) from there to the door. I put to cleaning the shower (and Em) while Em stood in the corner saying, "tank u Mommy!"
K imitating Em, except she can't keep a straight face when she does it. I think it is because every time Em strikes her pose I bust into laughter so K thinks it is a joke.
My favorite K story this month has to be helping Em. I have been trying to convince Em to go potty in the potty, but she doesn't know when she has to go so she will walk up to me and say, "Poo Mommy," at any time of the day, mostly when she is bored. On this day, I was cooking and I told her she would just have to wait. So K came running up and said, "I will help her Mom!" Usually this frightens me but I decided it was a good idea so I told her that would be nice.
When I walked into the bathroom a couple minutes later, Em was naked on the potty and K was sitting on the stool in front of her with the Bible turned toward Em and she was reading her a story. I smiled and K was so proud of herself she started to show me all she had done...even putting the dirty diaper in the garbage. Then she promptly asked me to, "leave us alone so I can wead (read) to Em". And that's just what I did.
We had to get the little skirt that goes around the bottom of her dance outfit so you couldn't see her underwear anymore. She was super excited about this!! She is already getting so much better at dance and even willingly lets me pull her hair up for it!
We went down to Nana and Poppy's on Sunday for Poppy's birthday potluck. This is the girls making cards for Poppy's birthday.
Happy Birthday!
We had a tea party outside after naps.
It's been a very busy May and taking a breather is really all I want so I am trying to plan next week for a little time off before we head north for my family's reunion of sorts. This is an afterthought but I am also trying to get rolling on the book about M's grandparents so if you have any old letters from them or anything you know about them, please send it my way! God Bless!!
