John Stuart Mill (Essay on Liberty)

‘The liberty of the individual must be thus far limited; he must not make himself a nuisance to other people.’

Cenotes

Conotes are sink holes. The Yucatan is made of limestone so as the underground rivers erode it away, eventually the overlying sediment collapses and creates these 'holes' in the ground.

Outside where we ate lunch.

Oh and this happened everywhere we went...all the Mexicans wanted their picture taken with the "muy bonita nina". It was pretty funny, especially since most of them thought it was good luck to touch a beautiful baby. :)

Around the Hotel

The beds in our room...cute baby not included.

The view from our balcony...yeah, the Caribbean.

K loves to swim so much we had to take her out once her hands and feet looked like raisins...she never asked to get out.

On the beach with Da-Da...

...although this is usually how it ended up...everyone happy except mom who would rather be running up and down the beach...soon...soon.

If you are wondering about the normally placid waters and huge, sandy beaches...yes, they exist, just not during hurrican season...this beach is 150ft of sand in two months. It was rough to be there in hurricane season, but we managed to deal with the rough weather.

This may look like a sunset, but oh no, this is a sunrise. Thanks to a mini-M, we got to see most of these. :)

Chichen-Itza

On our way to Chichen-Itza...one of the seven wonders of the world...K just wonders why we are going there since it must be the hottest place on earth!! Poor girl inherited my family's red face. :)

This was easily the coolest thing we saw while there.

On the left is the temple of tables.

The obligatory attempt to get the three of us in a photo...

...except no one seemed to be able to use a camera. :(

The ball court. Actually, I thought this was pretty cool...it was so big, it was easy to picture a huge gathering of people watching one intense game!

The royal seating. Notice the carving...everything was carved...from the columns of buildings to all the walls of every building. This place must have been AMAZING in its hay day!

One of the rings on the side walls that the players had to pass the ball through.

The back side of Chichen Itza isn't as well preserved but shows excavation quite well.

The cenote (sink hole) where the virgins were sacrificed to the gods.

Example of carved columns.

Gotta love the jaguars everywhere.

Did I mention it was hot? Look at those little cheeks.

And now some pics of us once the little girl woke up and we just chilled in the shade.
