Emily

Emily is definitely starting to sleep like a regular baby!!

Lounging around

Now that Emily is allowed outside, we took her on her first walk...I mean, she is sort of outside...under she covers and blankets. :)

Cleaning Day

Today was cleaning day at the Erickson house...K is at the stage where she is always helping out...at least now it is useful! That is a wipe in her hand.

She starts on the tub, then her high chair, and eventually, she always seems to make it back to her toys (still cleaning, oddly enough).

Going for a walk...

Emmers took in a stretch and just hung out.

More buttons...seriously...with all the new equipment, it is too much to resist for a little K.

Eating artichokes with Dad...ever since we got her unplugged, she eats EVERYTHING and A LOT of it!

So many people have sent us gifts of love for our little girl...we appreciate all of them and I cherish them as reminders of the people who have always kept her name before the Lord. I believe she is alive because of your prayers and all these things remind me of that. This is a quilt with Emily's name and birth date on it...it is beautiful and I wanted to post it to thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers throughout this time. We know we have only just begun but I feel like a HUGE hurdle has been cleared just in getting her out of the NICU and into our home.

Drama After the Drama

Nothing is easy with Emily.

Last week Emily had some apnea episodes (stopped breathing) and she was pretty lethargic about eating so the dr decided we should do blood work to see if she had an infection.

Well, getting Em's blood is no small feat. Apparently her veins 'disappear'. As a parent, 45 minutes of stabbing my kid and failing to get blood is just too long. The long and short of it is that they finally went to her feet to collect the blood...and it came back with a bacterial infection.

Luckily, our pediatrician doesn't over-react and since everything else was negative, she called to find out if the blood had gotten contaminated. This all happened at midnight...me on the phone with my kid's awesome dr. So she called the NICU for a second opinion and they wanted to readmit her and start her on antibiotics while they waited for a second blood culture to grow.

I spent half an hour convincing our dr that we could do everything they were going to do and she arranged for a new blood test the following day. So we drove back in to the hospital and the same thing happened again, except this time they were successful. Today we found out the test was negative and we were right...it was a contaminant. Praise the Lord! We did not want to have her back in the NICU! So...two days used to take Emily's blood, all to find out she is fine. They increased the amount of caffeine she gets and she hasn't had any episodes since. Ahhh, life with Emily.
