Apparently, she felt the need to read along with Poppy's notes.
This story is pretty cute so I will share: On Thursday night we were reading a story before bed like we always do. This night it was the book that summarizes Jesus' life. When we got to the page that shows the crosses, K sat up and looked at me and asked, "How is it you feel when you see that?" Confused, I asked for clarification. In clarfication, I was given, "No! How is it you feel when you see that?" I know God took over because in that moment, I had the ability to speak Kylie and instantly understood. I told her that I feel sad that Jesus had to die on the cross but I feel happy because since He did it, He forgives my sins. And then she said, "And that's how you know you will go to heaven?" To which I said, "Well, that's how I know I am going to go to heaven, yes, because Jesus has forgiven my sins." Then she looked right at me and said, "I want that too!"
I clarified some of the finer details and then asked her if she wanted to ask Jesus to take away all of the wrong things she has done and ask Him if He will come live in her heart. She said yes and I said, "Right now?" (it took me a moment to realize this was actually happening). :-) She said yes again and so we prayed. When she looked up, she was so proud of herself and you could tell she knew something...she had her "I just got a free piece of chocolate" face on. I told her that now she was a part of God's family too. So she asked me if Daddy was in that family, and me, and the Nana's, and the Poppy's...and then it occured to her that Emily had not prayed and she nearly panicked. "Mom, what about Emmy? She has to ask Jesus into her heart! She has to be a part of God's family too! Emmy, you have to pray! Mom, make her pray!" I explained that that wasn't how it worked and that Em would understand someday too and then she would pray on her own. In a distraction effort, it occured to me that we should share. So we got up out of bed, after bedtime, and called the Grandparents before heading back to bed.
Just showing off my handiwork...no, I didn't make the nativity scene, the hair!
You know when you carry something but you don't even realize it's a burden to you until it's gone? The mixture of joy and relief that I feel right now have made me realize that although I had complete faith that God would call her to himself, in the gap, I was carrying it (in prayer, as we all should). And now that that part is over, there is great relief that the first lap of the race is done and the real work (of discipleship) is about to begin. But discipleship, this I look forward to.
We are so excited! It has been a crazy week and and a crazy weekend, but all of it joy and rejoicing! God is good!
