Celtic Woman in Las Vegas

Well, explaining this trip might take a bit so let's just say that one day a few months ago Mom was trying to explain to K that she should not try to sing like Mama but instead should sing with a pretty voice. She was not getting it, so we turned on utube and discovered Celtic Woman...a group of women from Ireland who sing beautiful songs (you know, real music) and dress up like princesses. They fell in love and in that moment, two rivers ran into one. (They had been asking to go to a concert for a long time, but not wanting them to get blasted out or think concerts were only about rock music, I had been putting them off for quite some time.)

So Dad looked it up and sure enough, Celtic Woman was coming to Vegas in November. Vegas is not our favorite place and we have not been there since having kids, but we were told it is much more 'kid friendly' and we should try it. So, we bought tickets, booked a hotel and headed off to sin city. The timing wasn't the best as we are still all a little under the weather (colds followed the flu) but we decided to make the most of it.

While I was packing, I came back inside to find K reading the encyclopedia to Emily. They are crazy!

Our first night, we went to check out Freemont Street.  Em had a hard time walking as she lost track of all things going on around her and just stared up at the ceiling.

The next day, we wandered all over the big hotels, caught an impromptu little show, ate chocolate, decided against a gondola ride, and had a blast.  Sadly for the blog but mainly not wanting to take a million pics, I left the camera at the hotel.  There are a couple on Dad's phone we might load later.  Everywhere we went, K would declare, "Mom!  It is so beautiful!  I am going to get married here someday when I am old!"  (Still not sure where she comes from).  Anyway, by that night, we were getting ready for the concert.  Can you tell how well her mom models proper use of a hair dryer?

We were pretty disappointed in the weather as it rained the entire time we were there.  The only reason we decided to stay at this hotel and on this side of town was because of the shark tank pool.  Awesome!!!  Our girls love to swim and love sharks, what better combination is there?  :-) There is literally a shark tank in the middle of the pool, which is also a lazy river.  We were so excited.  Then, because it was cold and rainy, they shut the pool down completely and wouldn't even let people in to see it up close.  So sad!!

But I digress...this is for our cousins...they are obsessed with transformers so when I saw him, I almost died!

We got to walk under the lights again on our way to the bus...

As we walked through the mass/maze of stores, we took some pics. Oh yeah, the girls wanted to dress up like princesses to "match the princess singers".  Can you imagine their joy when they realized the Christmas outfits the women wore were white?

K has been practicing all of her 'pretty smiles'.  I may or may not have an incredibly hard time with it.  I can let my kids dress however they want, taking all the remarks about my kids being hippies, and even let them have their hair how they like, but bad smiles?  No way!  We have crossed a line, some imaginary line somewhere!  Apparently the princesses and I have different ideas of what is pretty and K feels the need to side with her books instead of me.  We WILL figure this out, soon!  :-)

With Em's sight, we have come to the point of making sure experiences are "worth it".  One impact of that is paying for tickets I have never had in my life...nice and close so Em can see what is going on.  So, I guess this experience was a new one for all of us.

Our favorite was the violinist.  She is fun to watch and very good.  When I asked K what her favorite part of the concert was, she said, "The violin lady, she came over and looked right at me and smiled!"  I know they are good at making you feel great, but it really did feel like the violinist kept coming to our side, finding the girls and smiling at them.  We were in the second row and on the aisle, so it isn't inconceivable.

It was voted that this girl had the prettiest hair...

But this girl had the prettiest voice...the Drmmer Boy is behind her...

The orchestra is somewhere in those lights.  It really was beautiful music!  My favorite was when they sang, "You Raise Me Up".  That kind of music is just powerful.  The girls did real well.  Two hours of music with no show or real action going on.  K sat nice the entire time, clapping and looking around.  Em, well, wiggle worm had a harder time but she still did well.  She just saw the picture above and said, "What's that? Oh that's the violin lady!!!"  :-)  She really was the hero and they are making all of their dolls the violin lady today.

We got back at 11pm and I was a little worried my non-sleeper-inners would have a rough time, but they actually slept in!  Until 9am!  Maybe it's because we made them 'dens' to sleep in...

Overall, we had a good time.  The concert was amazing.  Is Vegas 'kid friendly'?  No!  Sorry friends.  Maybe in the middle of the day it was a little better but I stress the little and as for evening, let's not go there.

Well, I hope your holiday planning is off to a great start!  God Bless!
