Hello again! Today finds us with our hands knee deep in several projects and wondering when summer is going to start and relieve us of a few of them. :-)
Last week was Kool April Nights - a city-wide series of events all about old cars. Having two little girls, neither of whom are interested in cars, it was a brief visit for us. After discussing the colors of the cars and deciding which we like best, they were done.
The amount of cool, old things all over town is super fun to me!
This was the favorite car for Emily.
After a long soccer game Friday evening, in which the wind was blowing hard and our team got beat up by a 'meany-pushing team', I drug them back one more time for "The Cruise". On Friday night, all the cars drive around a two and a half mile loop in a parade-like fashion, showing off their good looks and loud sounds.
The girls were so excited to get there, mainly because I was excited. Then about ten minutes in, they both asked, "What are they going to do?" When I told them this was it, drive around in circles, they turned on me and it was a lost cause after that. They declared it the most boring thing ever and actually asked if they could just go home and go to bed! Daddy has a lot of work to do if he ever wants to take them to something like this...might just need to be a guy's thing and he can go with his buddies.
The girls do, however, find great interest in dressing up as king and queen...
The foxes are attempt number 5000 to get Em to stop sucking her thumb. She swears this time she will stop and even 'proved' it to me by going one night without night-night before I allowed her to trade him in. We shall see. As you can see, they spent some time decorating their thrones as well.
I can't remember who she was on this day but the outfit made me laugh so much I took a pic.
K decided Dad needed help on his tree house and made herself a tool belt.
She was holding up the boards while Dad screwed them in.
Until she saw me and then it was time to pose for a couple pics.
This was her idea, "Oh Mom, wouldn't it be cute if I was like this?"
I have been pushing pretty hard for the last month to try to get us ahead in school. M has vacation starting on the May 16th and Nana has another surgery on the 14th, so I want to be done with school by the 13th so we can be 100% there for all these things. It hasn't been easy but we are getting there. Today I laid out the lesson plans for the last of the year and got it down to ten remaining school days (which is harder than it sounds as they have three field trips planned into that time period).
As an attempt to motivate her, we made a chain and on each link is a reward that she came up with - everything from a new book to a treat at the dollar store to a movie on Netflix - and each day we finish school, she gets to pull one off. I keep telling her we will be done for a long time after this but she doesn't get it - one summer is all it will take.
All of their arrows have broken so today when I caught them shooting clothes hangers at each other, I really did laugh out loud. They were pretty proud of themselves for making me do that and kept going like crazy kids. Don't worry all my cautious parents out there...they aren't any good and never did hit each other.
And this is my tribute to the best dog in the world. If it weren't for his bark, he really would be the perfect dog. He lets them dress him up all the time and doesn't even destroy their stuff. He even listens to and obeys Emily. He is a good guard dog, loyal, and well, I will miss him when he goes. He will be ten next month!
This, ladies and gentlemen, is what we call 'progress'. What you are looking at is my parents' future kitchen.
I have decided that contractors must have similar vision to that of God's. They can look at this giant mess of torn up walls and studs and tell me about the progress we are making and how great this is going to be when they are done. God does the same with each one of us. He can take one look at our ruined, torn up and pathetic lives and see how beautiful we will one day be when He is done with us. Well, this remodel (new creation :-) ) has been a beast since three of the walls are solid concrete. They made this house to last, not be remodeled. So every time they need to run a new wire or a new pipe, it is to jackhammer through the concrete. The biggest down side to homeschooling is when your home and your school are vibrating and making loud noises all day long.
Thankfully the tree house is almost finished and perhaps that will just become our school house for a couple weeks.
Well, I have decided that one of these days soon, I am going to talk a little more about the ranch. It is a very different life and I realized today that I need not gloss over it completely, but show a little more of what we do here. Once school is done, I will hopefully have a ton of time and will get onto that as well as writing more. Wow! That sounds great! Now I am not sure who is more excited for school to be over, me or her...ME!!!
God Bless!!
