Em's First "Hike"

We decided that today was the day Em would venture out on her first 'hike'...so we went up into the hills around here and took the girls to a small lake that has a path that goes all the way around it. We took a couple family pics too. :)

Em was just evaluated and her skills are placing her as a 10 month old in cognitive, fine motor and self-help, while she is 18-20 months in her gross motor, social and other skills. What does that mean? If you can imagine a ten month old and their inability to fully comprehend and understand how things work mixed with the energy and ability to move and climb like an 18 month old, you can imagine what our lives are like and why it is often so confusing to deal with her...especially when it comes to discipline. She is doing things that need discipline but we often wonder how effective it is if she is not understanding what is going on.

For those without kids, the above paragraph should read: Emily looks like a normal one and a half year old in that she runs around, climbs on things and plays with other kids. However, if you spent time with her, you would realize she is still a baby in all her other skills, like eating, picking things up, and her language. She is still not talking really at all (in words anyway). She has lots of sounds but only about five words.

The question I always get is. "So, that's good, right?"  Well, her movement and big skill are doing awesome!!  The drs at this point expect her to behave like a 14month old child.  That mean in her movement, she is exceeding expectations and doing very well.  The issue is that in all her fine skills, she is falling further behind than we had hoped.  Her language is their biggest concern but we can only wait and see, so I am not going to worry about it.  Instead, we are going to try to let her live as normal as a life as possible.  And normal for us is going places...

Ok, now the real hiking...

K started out throwing sticks and graduated to rocks later.

You can't tell but she has her pockets full of rocks she is taking to the lake to throw in.

K decided she needed to carry her backpack as well as her dog so I put it on her front and of course they had to find out just what was inside there. They were pretty disappointed when it was diapers and wipes and not food!

Daddy and his girls. Other than some skimmed knees, we got out of there in one piece. I am not sure if Em just doesn't see well or if she is just uncoordinated (or both) but she is still not that good at walking and not falling.

In regular life, K has been trying to pick up my weights so she can work out with me so, fearing an injury or smashed toe, I bought some little two pound weights just for her. She thinks she is so cool and so strong!

Her sister already worships her so you know she thought it was cool too.

These two were playing so well together during group that I took a pic and we let our guard down a little too much and when it got just too quiet...we searched and found them playing with the finger paint...in the play room...unsupervised!! I should have taken a pic of that but I was too busy getting them into the tub before they touched any of my walls. With all the moms there, we had it cleaned and kids bathed and playing again in ten minutes, but sadly, our carpet will never be the same. :-)

Sometimes K just tells me she wants a pic with Emmy and her on the brown chair...this was one of those.

Playing with Daddy.

I only wish she was saying, "nose" while she pointed to it.

Thanks for your prayers! God Bless!!
